The answer is already there. Britta finds it by looking closer.
Her instincts showed up early, when her dad handed her a computer and a stack of programming books. She taught herself to build websites and by the time she was in middle school, her celebrity fan site had gained enough of a following and reputation as the go to destination for rare remixes and photos to be featured on MTV Europe. That curiosity never slowed down. A few years later, she became one of the original ten lifecasters on Justin.tv (covered in a nationally syndicated article that ran in over 30 papers).
Then, at 19, an illness took most of her vision. Like most people with their senses, she had taken it for granted. Losing it taught her she had something worth losing. The recovery was rare and unexpected, and essentially changed how she approached everything that followed. While living in San Francisco, she took the leap and began her design education at Academy of Art University, then continued at Full Sail University in Orlando. From there, she worked live broadcast environments at WWE as a Decko operator and vignette truss builder. That led to a role as lead track graphic artist at Daytona Intl. Speedway.
Then, came the moment that redirected everything: In the late stages of her pregnancy, small child in tow, Britta was stalked and nearly abducted in broad daylight.
She noticed him before anyone else did. She calculated how many steps behind them he was, formulated a plan, and escaped with no seconds left to spare. It was her training in Krav Maga and her own situational awareness that kept them safe.
In the aftermath, she did what she has always done. She investigated by pulling the thread: seeking to gain dimension on what made them a target. What she found was a market: what children sell for, what a pregnant woman is worth. The curiosity and marketing experience that had once built fan sites and designed collateral for racetracks was now pointed something much deeper and much more sinister.
Around the same time, an autosomal DNA test revealed her as an NPE, which cued her to take a deeper look at her entire family history, because the truth was what she was after. Tracing her lineage uncovered connections to several well-documented Revolutionary War patriots whose records were on file, but whose link to her had never been established. She found it and proved it. That research earned her entry into the Daughters of the American Revolution, where she rose to Chapter Regent within her first five years, a pace almost unheard of in the organization.
She spent years developing brands for small businesses and organizations, but the near-abduction had already set a different course for her: she became an OSINT analyst for a notable non-profit focused on combating human trafficking, and began pursuing a master's degree in Criminal Justice. Wanting a more direct path, she entered law enforcement training. Physical setbacks during the academy redirected her course, but not the mission, and not the skill set she had begun to build.
Investigating, digging, exploring, analyzing: every thread of her life has required the same thing. The way she traces a family line, the way she walks through a building everyone else has declared empty of meaning, is exactly the way you find the people who exploit children in digital spaces. Most people can see. Britta knows how to look. The purpose is fixed. The work is underway.
